Despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, our recruitment efforts continue full speed ahead. 

We quickly pivoted to virtual information sessions, online forms and virtual interviews to ensure the health and safety of our candidates and our own members.

Information Sessions are held the second Wednesday, September to June, on Instagram Live @ottawa_police_recruiting at 6 p.m. Any changes to this schedule will be communicated via social media.

Experienced Officers 

If you have previous Canadian policing experience, you may qualify as an Experienced Officer.

New Recruit Requirements 

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (If you are not a Canadian citizen and wish to apply with the OPS, see the Citizenship and Immigration Canada site on how to obtain permanent residency.)
  • Be at least 18 yrs. of age.
  • College diploma (2 year) or a university Degree (in anticipation of the change to the academic minimum, pending January 1, 2022).
  • Full G Ontario Driver’s License or Provincial Equivalent.
  • Provide a valid PREP certification*.
  • Complete Standard First Aid and CPR-C prior to hire.

Please note the selection process is highly competitive.  Successfully completing one stage does not guarantee proceeding to the next stage.
