JOB SUMMARY

You are responsible for the coordination of monitoring and evaluation activities relating to Traffic Services or Transportation Planning programs. These activities include involvement in both studies and implementation of measures in the following areas: traffic management, traffic calming, cycling and pedestrian facilities, road safety assessment, streetscaping, traffic operations, parking control, proposed roadway modifications as part of development applications, capacity and safety needs, and enforcement, education and awareness support activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Civil Engineering or related field

Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation or related field

KNOWLEDGE

  • Traffic survey / data collection techniques
  • Public consultation techniques
  • Database management techniques
  • Specialized software (data management, GIS and road design related)
  • Ontario Highway Traffic Act and Traffic Manual, and the city’s Traffic and Parking By-Law
  • Roadway geometric design and traffic safety principles
  • Branch policies / guidelines relating to traffic calming measures, cycling and pedestrian facilities, road safety assessments and mitigation measures, traffic and parking control measures, streetscaping measures, proposed roadway modifications as part of development applications, capacity and safety needs, and enforcement, education and awareness support activities

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to organize, plan and coordinate a number of technical programs simultaneously
  • Ability to analyze / summarize survey data in an organized, clear, an concise manner
  • Ability to utilize specialized traffic operations software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.       
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
