JOB SUMMARY

The Strategic Sourcing & Supply Chain Management Branch is responsible for developing, implementing and managing leading edge sourcing initiatives that will drive value and achieve cost savings for City departments, Library Services, and Ottawa Police Services. The Branch establishes sound strategic sourcing practices for a wide range of complex and high profile city-wide projects that span the full sourcing lifecycle, including research and industry analyses, strategy development, project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and executive reporting.  

Working in a high-volume invoice processing centre, you are responsible for supervising and motivating Accounts Payable staff.  You also perform supporting activities which include preparing account reconciliations and year end accrual entries, preparing and performing tests to validate financial system configuration changes, and assisting with various initiatives to improve processes to realize efficiencies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 4 year university degree in Commerce (Finance), Information Technology or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible financial management and supervisory experience in an accounting and invoice processing environment.

Knowledge of the City organization, financial policies and procedures is an asset

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) current with CPA Ontario is desirable

KNOWLEDGE

  • Internal control concepts and design
  • Advanced understanding of SAP ERP functionality with a focus on FI/MM integration, SAP procurement and payment processes, and data extraction tools
  • Knowledge of accounts payable automation solutions
  • Unit and integration testing techniques
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and commodity tax legislation
  • Business process review and analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with demonstrated MS Excel skills including ability to manipulate data using complex formulas and/or VBA code
  • Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in workplace, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.
