JOB SUMMARY
Building Code Services is responsible for administering and enforcing the Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code, including establishing operational policies and service delivery standards for the enforcement of the Act and Code, overseeing the enforcement of the Act and Code, and exercising the statutory powers and performing the duties assigned under the Act and Code. Building Code Services is also responsible for development, application and enforcement of various regulatory standards for development related structures and services, such as signs, municipal addressing, pool enclosures, etc., and the remediation of buildings formerly used as marijuana grow operations.
Reporting to a Program Manager, Building Code in Permit Approvals or Building Inspections, you provide support to the operational activities of the assigned unit by providing information to homeowners / contractors / designers / developers and the public on general construction requirements, standards and Building Permits, and by conducting related field inspections.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary Student - completion of second year college or university in Civil Engineering or Architecture
Two years or more of related experience is required in construction and/or reading and preparing designs and technical drawings
Experience in reading or preparing design and/or technical drawings is an asset.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
KNOWLEDGE
- Practical knowledge of construction practices, materials and methods and the Ontario Building Code obtained from either general experience and/or college/university.
- Completion of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Building Code exams on “General Legal/Process” and “House” is desirable.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Computer skills (use of design related programs, MAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft suite of programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Mathematical skills and strong spatial recognition.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
