JOB SUMMARY

Surveys and Mapping provides corporate legal survey and mapping services in support of the City’s planning, development and infrastructure operations and to enable all City-led construction projects.

Under the direction of a Survey Technician or Technologist, you work as a member of a Survey Field crew, assisting the crew in obtaining data for legal and/or topographical surveys, including operating and maintaining surveying equipment, and assisting in the preparation and storage of records and data obtained from field surveys.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary Student - completion of second year college or university in Geomatics (preferred) or a related field

Minimum of 8 months but less than 1 year of related experience is required; experience in a geomatics field preferred (e.g. legal surveys or GIS)

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

KNOWLEDGE

  • Trimble GPS equipment
  • Total Station equipment
  • 3 degree MTM coordinate systems

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Capable of operating a personal computer to assist in data downloading Must be thorough and meticulous
  • Courteous and informative character when dealing with City staff and the public
  • Must demonstrate initiative and responsibility
  • Documents observations in a clear, concise manner
  • Ensures that electronic data is stored in a correct manner
  • Operates City vehicles in a safe manner and performs daily vehicle maintenance checks
  • Effective interpersonal relationships
  • Tact, initiative, reliability and thoroughness
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a team

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.       
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
