JOB SUMMARY

The mandate of the Revenue Service is to ensure that all revenue functions at the City of Ottawa are undertaken with a strategic corporate outlook, reflect industry best practices, and comply with statutory regulations to meet the expectations of Council and provide equitable services to the citizens of Ottawa.

As a member of Revenue Services, and under the direction of the supervisor in the assigned unit, you are responsible for delivering superior customer service when handling Tax and Water account issues as they have a direct impact on the City’s image and customer satisfaction levels. You support the customer account maintenance, billing, collection and/or assessment functions and provide customer service in Taxation, Water and Accounts Receivable.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Post-Secondary Student (completion of first year college or university) - Completion of first year college or university in Business or related field

Minimum of 1 year but less than 2 years of related experience is required, previous office experience and/or customer service experience.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of the accounting principles of finance.
  • Working knowledge of the Assessment Act, Municipal Act and related Municipal By-Laws as they pertain to taxation, water and corporate accounts receivable.
     

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365 programs, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; use of email and internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents.
  • Keyboarding and mouse skills
  • Good organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, combined with an outstanding customer service attitude and proven time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all work related contacts.
  • Tact, patience, able to work independently, punctual and accepts responsibility for self and actions. Demonstrated ability to use computerized accounts receivable systems such as VTAX, Aquacis and SAP, is an asset.
  • Research and analytical skills to conduct research, perform various types of analysis. 
  • Work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines.
  • Apply customer service skills and verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to perform reception duties, respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries, and provide information to internal clients and/or the public.
     

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
