JOB SUMMARY
The Finance and Corporate Services Department is responsible for the delivery of integral services to ensure the organization achieves operational excellence and corporate priorities. As a trusted advisor and respected partner, the department leads the management of human resources, technology transformation and services, supply, fleet services, payroll, pensions, and benefits, and is accountable for handling all the City’s financial affairs. The mandate of Information Technology Services is to create business value by providing innovative and strategic technology solutions for the business operations of the City of Ottawa.
You are responsible for assisting on data and software aspects of corporation's GIS project initiatives and assisting with supporting operational GIS functions including:
- Collecting, reviewing, and updating the City spatial or GIS data used as part of enterprise business processes and services;
- Assisting in the maintenance and support of GIS related corporate applications, desktop and mobile GIS software (primarily ESRI);
- Working with GIS staff on various tasks and projects as needed; and
- Performing other GIS related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary Student - completion of second year college or university. Applicants enrolled in studies with educational emphasis on GIS courses/programs will be considered for this position.
Minimum of 1 year but less than 2 years of related experience is required, including demonstrated experience in an ArcGIS or CADD environment and experience in reading and interpreting engineering plans, imagery and topographic maps
KNOWLEDGE
- Must have knowledge and experience with ESRI desktop software (i.e. ArcGIS 10.8.1 or higher, or ArcPro 2.9.1 or higher)
- Must have knowledge of GIS data concepts (i.e. topology, relationship classes, spatial referencing systems)
- Knowledge and experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS for Field Maps, and Survey123 would be an asset.
- Knowledge and ability to program with GIS software related languages (Python, ArcPy, Arcade, SQL) would be an asset.
- Knowledge of relational database management systems (RDMS), including Esri’s geodatabase technology, would be an asset.
- Experience with MS Office (O365, Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
