JOB SUMMARY

Signs and Pavement Markings is responsible for managing the design, installation, modification, maintenance and removal of traffic signs, specialty signs, and pavement markings. 

You work on a crew responsible for assembling, installing, removing and maintaining traffic control devices (traffic, directional, speciality and other signs) OR removing and reinstating pavement markings on road surfaces within the City of Ottawa. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12  

Minimum of 6 months of experience working with a maintenance and/or crew environment

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

KNOWLEDGE

  • Equipment/tools and technical procedures, processes (e.g. coning vehicles, segments of the road and the work area) and operation of equipment, (e.g. high pressure hydraulics, aerial vehicles, painting machines), used in the work
  • General knowledge of computerized systems (Microsoft Office: Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • City procedures for installing, repairing and maintaining signs and traffic devices, and for removing and reinstating/overlaying road markings
  • General tool maintenance and repair techniques
  • General knowledge of City/departmental health and safety policies and procedures
  • Ottawa Hydro procedures and protocols for working around high voltage electricity
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing       
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
