JOB SUMMARY

The mandate of Facility Operations is to operate and maintain all City facilities and City-managed buildings, which represents approximately 900 buildings and includes police, fire, libraries, child care, paramedic posts, recreation, culture, public works, City Hall and other administrative buildings, long-term care facilities, and facility outdoor property. The Facility Operations units deliver facility management and maintenance services within assigned geographic and/or specialty areas.

You operate the ice resurfacing equipment on a part-time basis and carry out general housekeeping activities and minor building maintenance activities, as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10 

Minimum of 1 year of related experience in building/cleaning maintenance, including experience in operating ice resurfacer and ice edger

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
Safe Ice Resurfacer Operator (Zamboni) certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer. 
Certified Ice Technician (CIT) from ORFA or equivalent is an asset

  • Capable of working shift work, including weekends
  • Ability to work overtime

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.  
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
