JOB SUMMARY
This job is for temporary use in the development of graduate students obtaining licensure as a Professional Engineer.
Under the guidance of a licensed Professional Engineer, you are responsible to provide engineering support in a diverse range of projects. General activities may include carrying out engineering studies/reviews, data analysis and preparing technical reports. You will follow a work plan that provides more detailed objectives and duties by specific departments.
Planning, Real Estate & Economic Development Department is responsible for the planning and delivery of growth activities for the City of Ottawa, including long range land use planning, the City’s long-term transportation plan, the prioritization of transportation investments, development approvals, management and long-term strategies for the City’s real estate portfolio, delivering on major city-building projects, and identifying opportunities to foster economic prosperity.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in an engineering program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).
KNOWLEDGE
- Specific and general knowledge in the field of application related to the department
- Engineering standards for Ontario/Canada and related to the field of expertise
- Familiarity of various engineering standards, bylaws and related national and provincial codes, applicable acts, legislations, regulations and guidelines
- Current and advanced engineering technologies, processes and design
- Project management principles and practices
- Analytical techniques
- Applied research techniques (pilot plant, bench-scale, etc.): set-up, operation, analysis
- Customer service management
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook, etc.)
- Field investigation and surveying techniques
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

- Prepare and deliver technical and management summary reports
- Plan, execute and monitor engineering and process studies
