JOB SUMMARY

Directly Operated Child Care Services is responsible for planning and managing the delivery and operations of Child Care programs and services delivered to the community through the Municipal Child Care Centres.

You are responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned daily activities associated with the Child Care Centre’s programs, and the overall monitoring of children’s activities in providing a healthy and safe environment, in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 20214.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10 

Early Childhood Education Diploma (two year diploma) or an equivalency certificate provided by the Association of Early Childhood Education of Ontario (AECEO) is an asset.

Less than 6 months of experience working with children 6 weeks to 10 years of age in a group setting such as a summer camp, recreational program, a field placement or child care centre

Must meet requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 as defined by the Ministry of Education

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates

KNOWLEDGE

  • Appropriate behaviour management techniques
  • Fire, health and safety regulations
  • Municipal center policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Human Right legislation, corporate and departmental policies, Employee Code of Conduct
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement. 
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
