JOB SUMMARY

The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City. The Materials & Warranty Management section manages the Transit Services Purchasing Operations & Warranty Programs, including materials management and warranty administration, inventory management, tool purchase/management, procuring and expediting goods & services, and maximizing the proceeds of disposition of surplus and obsolete materials.

You assist in the administration of the warranty cost recovery program for all new buses. You: provide administrative support to completion of warranty claims; package and arrange for the shipping of defective parts; close out on-line warranty claims; and perform other related administrative support duties as assigned. You also provide administrative support, as required, within other sections.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12.

Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mechanical field, obtained in a transit garage, stores or warehousing environment along with clerical experience, including data entry and keyboarding.

Experience with Fleet Management Information Systems (FMIS).

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Forklift Operator Licence

KNOWLEDGE

  • Policies, procedures/techniques, and regulations governing material handling
  • WHMIS procedures and the methods/procedures used in safely loading and transporting goods
  • Buses and bus system components and automotive parts
  • Shipping procedures
  • Forklift operation and material handling techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of interpersonal relations
  • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite in a Windows environment, including use of MOE and the internet 
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

  • Able to physically move parts and materials with stamina to perform the job duties (which may include manipulating or moving parts to weights of 35 lbs. or greater)
