JOB SUMMARY
Training & Development plans and coordinates operational training for the Public Works & Environmental Services department, including Spring/Winter equipment schools, MOE Operator Certification training, supervisory development/succession programs such as Roads and Parks Crew Leader, Maintenance Coordinator and Zone Supervisor (CMZ), and Forestry In-Training Programs, identifies training needs, and supports operational staffing through overseeing the Master Assignment Board and related seasonal competitions.
You are responsible for administering and supporting training and certification programs for the department, including Ministry of Environment Operator Certification and other operational training, health and safety training, and corporate training. You communicate general and program-specific information to management and staff, serve as liaison for staff, training providers and legislative authorities (i.e. Ministry of Environment), arrange training sessions, and schedule staff for training.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 2 year college diploma in office administration, human resources, business administration or other related field.
Minimum of 2 years of administrative experience.
KNOWLEDGE
- Thorough knowledge of the SAP Training and Events Module
- General knowledge of departmental operations
- Advanced working knowledge of administrative practices and procedures related to departmental training and certification
- Knowledge of policies and procedures for Corporate Records Management Systems
- Knowledge of Ministry of Environment Operator Certification requirements and procedures
- Knowledge of MFIPPA (Municipal Freedom of Protection and Privacy Act)
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

- Advanced skills in using SAP and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Communicate effectively with tact and discretion, both orally and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external clients
- Ability to research information from various sources to facilitate preparation of reports or documents
- Ability to understand legislative requirements that pertain to the work

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
