JOB SUMMARY
The Surveys and Mapping unit provides corporate legal survey and mapping services in support of the City’s planning, development and infrastructure operations and to enable all City led construction projects.
You are responsible for analyzing and compiling survey data and producing legal survey plans, planimetric and topographical base maps, index maps and sketches, utilizing graphics related software and computer aided drafting techniques and ensuring conformance to relevant Provincial legislation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 2 year community college diploma in Geomatics or a related discipline with a concentration in Legal Surveys
Minimum of 3 years of experience in survey data compilation
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
KNOWLEDGE
- Ontario statutes and regulations relating to surveys and plans
- The Ontario Land Registration System
- Ontario Cadastral Survey fabric
- Intergraph Microstation
- Interactive graphics hardware/software
- Coordinate geometry software
- Digital mapping methods and procedures
- Survey computations
- 3 and 6 degree coordinate systems
- Horizontal control systems
- Automated plotters
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- General knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Compile and produce digital maps, plans and sketches.
- Able to operate an interactive graphics workstation.
- Able to compile and evaluate survey evidence.
- Understand computer software packages and manuals.
- Ability to analyze and enter deeds, easements and ownership information into plans.
- Operate automated plotters and computer peripherals.
- Able to communicate effectively with supervisor to ensure that legal survey issues are resolved in an effective manner.
- Must be thorough and meticulous.
- Must have initiative, reliability and tact.
- Able to carry on effective interpersonal relationships.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
