JOB SUMMARY
Development Review is responsible for provincial and City land use planning policies and directions, including engineering design reviews, review of urban design, infrastructure, transportation, and parks and the processing of various development applications for the urban, suburban and rural areas.
Under the direction of a Senior Engineer, Infrastructure Applications, you are responsible for the technical review of infrastructure related to development work submitted by consultants, developers and the general public, within the assigned geographic area. You also coordinate the approval of Building Permit Grading Plans.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary Student - completion of second year college or university in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or similar engineering program
Minimum of 4 months but less than 8 months of related experience is required in engineering design review or approvals, roads, watermains, sewers, lot grading, storm water management; experience gained either by previous work employment, volunteer work or education, people experience through retail or other service sector employment.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of Infrastructure Systems (Sanitary/Storm sewers, Watermains, Transportation, etc.), infrastructure, planning, development process, building code, and plumbing code,
- Microsoft Windows environment and Word/Excel/Access/GIS.
- Familiarity with the City of Ottawa, its geography, people, areas of development.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- To be able to readily read and understand various sources of information in plans or tabular form.(detailed engineering drawings and calculation sheets).
- To be able to perform mathematical calculations pertaining to a engineering nature.
- To work well in a team environment with minimum supervision
- To exhibit excellent oral communication skills
- To establish work priorities
- To be able to use own judgment.
- To be tactful and courteous in dealings with the public.
- To work in a fast paced and changing priority environment.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
