JOB SUMMARY
You assist the supervisor or designate in performing the following intermediate level engineering functions, as required:
- conducting engineering fieldwork including conducting visual surveys, collecting data, taking photographs
- monitoring construction operations
- conducting general construction site office duties
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of second year college or university in mechanical, chemical, environmental or electrical engineering, architectural or civil/structural engineering with a strong computer applications background
Minimum of 1 year but less than 2 years of related experience is required.
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of project management principles and phases/life cycles of projects, related systemsapplications and data management tools
- Knowledge of aspects of the construction project management and administration process
- Intermediate level of knowledge of engineering theories, techniques, and procedures or highermathematics
- Intermediate level competency in writing and testing computer programs
- Intermediate level working knowledge of a variety of computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and FoxPro, MapInfo, ITX, Oracle, ArcView, AutoCAD, MicroStation 95, data communication protocols, graphics programs, statistical analysis programs, Aperture, SPAN, and IMA7, etc.
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to conduct engineering fieldwork and drafting
- Ability to read engineering plans and specifications, and reports
- Ability to read or prepare designs and/or technical drawings
- Ability to perform complex calculations including quantity calculations
- Works with sensitive process and analytical instruments
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, including participating in meetings, presentations, and interacting with the public
- Ability to operate plotter, engineering copier, etc.
- Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
- Ability and willingness to work on construction sites
- Ability to operate cars and small trucks
- Ability to operate power hand tools
- Ability to recognize process problems to prevent the need for costly repairs
- Attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgment
- Strong communication skills, including tact, patience and assertiveness
- Ability to prioritize and work independently
- Willingness to enter data for long periods of time
- Ability to interact with a variety of people including the general public
- Organized, thorough
- Ability to work in an office set in a technical work environment
- Willingness to work outside, on construction sites and to walk long distances
- Students must supply own CSA-approved, green patch safety work boots
- Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.

- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
