JOB SUMMARY

ServiceOttawa is the first stop for City of Ottawa services for residents and businesses through ottawa.ca, My ServiceOttawa, Call Centre Services (3-1-1) and the Counter Service Centres. ServiceOttawa provides a gateway to the City so that residents and businesses don’t have to navigate multiple departments to get what they need. The mandate of ServiceOttawa is to achieve better outcomes for Ottawa residents and businesses when they access City services, by providing a consistent and positive client experience across multiple channels with a focus on Service Excellence.

Under the guidance of a Team Lead in the Counter Services Branch of ServiceOttawa, you provide basic customer service assistance in the provision of general information related to the delivery of a variety of City products and services at an assigned location.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Graduate entering college/university in the fall

Minimum of 4 months but less than 8 months of related experience is required, including 6 months of customer service experience dealing with clients face to face.

Previous office experience is a definite asset.

Completion of customer service course is desirable

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of City of Ottawa services is an asset.
  • Strong and accurate data entry/keyboard skills required.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to diffuse irate customers
  • Attention to details, resourcefulness and problem solving
  • Adeptness at using various software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with an outstanding customer service attitude required. Must have the ability to interact effectively and politely with members of the public and work-related contacts, often in confrontational environment.
  • Flexibility to cross-train into various work areas and work as a member of a team.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (Level 2) check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
