JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of a supervisor, you assist with the following activities: 

  • designing and preparing advertisements for placement in daily and community newspapers, magazines and other print media;
  • developing communication campaign design concepts for various departmental communications initiatives;
  • designing and preparing files for production, including the development of posters, banners, flyers, booklets, pamphlets, bookmarks, inserts, advertisements, etc.;
  • preparing and sending graphic design files to the Print Shop for photocopying, digital printing or offset printing;
  • designing and producing web banners for publishing on ottawa.ca; You use a MacIntosh computer to create all work assigned using programs such as QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and InDesign, and use OSX operating system to complete all work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary Student - completion of second year college or university in graphic design, communications, advertising or a related field

Minimum of 1 year but less than 2 years of related experience is required, including experience in dealing with public/customer service, general office environment or customer service setting

KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and /or other word processing & spreadsheet applications desirable;
  • Excellent knowledge of  Adobe All apps programs, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Knowledge of photocopying, digital printing and offset printing as well as pre-press set-up.

  • Ability to work independently with supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skill required.
  • Dependable in his/her ability to meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
