JOB SUMMARY
Traffic Operations oversees the installation, operation and maintenance of the City of Ottawa’s computerized traffic signal surveillance and control system, the construction, installation and repair/replacement of traffic control apparatus, and signage design and construction in accordance with City plans, policies and MTO regulations to ensure optimal safety of pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicle passengers/drivers and traffic flow.
You are responsible for technology projects and day to day maintenance of the Traffic Operations systems by analyzing user requirements, sourcing, designing, testing, implementing, documenting and maintaining systems to support the Traffic systems, the Loretta Avenue network, controller communications and all other communication tools used by the Traffic Operations Unit to interact with the Traffic system.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 3 year university degree in Computer Science.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in system analysis and design, computer systems, computer networks or database development.
Experience with Traffic systems is an asset

- Able to troubleshoot and upgrade hardware and software
- Possess advanced computer Knowledge in platform such as Visual Basic, C, C++, Java, SQL, QNX , and any other software specific to the work location

- Possess strong documentation, report writing and presentation skills
- Able to demonstrate sound judgement and decision-making capabilities
- Able to think analytically, and be attentive to accuracy and detail

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated; This position requires the successful candidate to use their own transportation.
