JOB SUMMARY
The Water Production branches operate and maintain the City's two water purification plants and the corresponding East or West remote pumping stations, reservoirs and communal well systems.
You are responsible to provide design, development, implementation, analysis, maintenance and technical support services for the City of Ottawa’s Drinking Water SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) System and other ancillary telecommunications and networking components.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Electronics or Control Systems Technology
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, implementation, application and maintenance of electronic, instrumentation and SCADA industrial control systems
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
KNOWLEDGE
- Drinking water treatment and distribution equipment and systems
- Employment, labour, health and safety legislation
- Allen-Bradley PLC –5’s, SLC500’s and MicroLogix
- Siemens Simatic S5’s
- HMI/SCADA technology, especially Intellution FIX and iFIX
- Local graphical user interfaces especially Nematron and Panelview
- Process control techniques and PLC ladder logic programming
- Computer hardware and software including administering Windows NT and Local Area Networks
- Computer and industrial networks and data communications technologies including DH+, DH485, Ethernet and TCP/IP
- SCADA telemetry systems including licensed, spread spectrum and microwave radio, telephone, co-axial broadband and fibre optics cabling systems
- Structured and object programming techniques
- Relational databases: design, tools and techniques including Oracle8
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Analyze and solve a variety of complex control systems problems in a timely and efficient manner
- Read and interpret control schematics, specifications and PID control diagrams
- Develop and implement HMI control programs and applications using iFIX, Visual Basic, SQL, RSLogix and STEP 5
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
- Consult one on one with users of the SCADA system, analyze their needs and recommend solutions
- Work both independently and as an effective member of a team offering guidance and support to colleagues
- Work within deadlines and balance competing demands
- Prepare and deliver clear and concise reports, estimates, etc.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
