JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of Information Technology Services is to create business value by providing innovative and strategic technology solutions for the business operations of the City of Ottawa.
You are responsible for providing technical oversight to the design, planning and implementation of assigned high-risk/large-scale and highly technical IT solutions that impact the overall IT Ecosystem. You are also responsible for serving as the department’s technical subject matter expert on the assigned solution, and leading the provision of its critical, day-to-day operations.
This role requires extensive expertise in SAP Data Architecture with a focus on Azure integration. It necessitates a comprehensive understanding of SAP modules such as Finance, HR/Success Factors, and Ariba, along with proficiency in SAP data structures, CDS Views, BW/4HANA, and SAP HANA Native Modeling. Experience with ETL/ELT tools, including SAP Data Services, Azure Data Factory, and MS Fabric, is essential. Advanced skills in data governance, metadata management, and modeling are critical, as is the ability to integrate business process knowledge with technical data flow design. Proficiency in reporting tools such as Power BI and SAP Analytics Cloud, coupled with the ability to develop data warehouse and Lakehouse architectures, is also a key requirement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience conducting technical design and architecture over a broad variety of software and hardware environments
KNOWLEDGE
- Computer science/IT concepts, principles and methodologies relevant to Ecosystem-wide technical design and architecture
- ITIL service delivery framework, including ITIL processes and best practices (including change management processes)
- Current and emerging industry standards and best practices used in solution design, architecture, development, testing, integration, implementation and maintenance
- IT security practices
- Process data modelling techniques
- Cost-benefit analysis techniques
- Technical performance management techniques
- Technical QA/QC processes
- Awareness of the department’s IT Project Life Cycle, and policies, standards, procedures and processes that pertain to the work activities
- Relevant legislation and regulations (e.g. AODA)
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
- For technology infrastructure positions:
- Technology infrastructure security practices and products (firewalls, virus protection)
- Internet connectivity protocols, issues and services (TCIP/IP, QoS, VLAN)
- IP/data/voice LAN/WAN network architecture and components (routers and switches, gateways, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit, SNMP and protocol analyzers)
- Infrastructure applications (Citrix)
- Storage and back-up technologies (Hitachi Storage Systems, NetApp, Commvault)
- Knowledge of underlying storage protocols (NFS, Fibre channel)
- E-mail systems (MS Exchange)
- Server operating systems (Microsoft Server 2008, UNIX, Solaris)
- Virtualization technologies (VMWare, Citrix)
- Technology infrastructure hardware (HP servers, SUN servers, CISCO, F5)
- Wireless/mobile technologies (Blackberry, WiFi, Remote Access)
- Deployment of applications in both LAN and WAN environments
- Network Management tools (CISCO Prime, MS-SCCM)
- For web software architecture positions:
- Strong demonstrated development experience and knowledge in web technology including web application and server architectures, .NET framework, Java web application frameworks (Spring, Hibernate, Java Server Faces), application security, user interface design, portal architectures and web services (including SOAP and REST)
- For database positions:
- Experience in database and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) architectures with Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL databases on multiple operating systems such as Windows, Solaris and Linux platforms; in database software and infrastructure operations; and in database management and maintenance for third party software.
- For SAP architecture positions:
- Knowledge of SAP ERP 6, SAP netweaver, HANA, S4/HANA architecture
- Knowledge of SAP modules: PM, HR, PS, MM, FI, CRM, etc.
- Demonstrated development experience using legacy SAP technologies including structured ABAP, ALV reports, function modules, Data Dictionary, SAP forms, etc.
- Experience analysing standard SAP functionality and identifying functionality gaps and approaches to enhance using: Customization, core mods, Badis, User Exits, enhancements, etc.
- Experience integrating SAP with other systems using idocs, ETL, APIs, Add-Ons and PI
- Demonstrated development experience using new SAP technologies including ABAP OOP, Web Dynpro ABAP/Java, Fiori (Odata, HTML5, JQuery) and HANA
- For data architecture positions:
- Knowledge and experience in Data Modeling and Database Design, Data Storage and SAN principles and Data Analytics
- For software architecture positions:
- Strong demonstrated experience and knowledge in Application Design and Modeling
