JOB SUMMARY


The Stormwater Management and Environmental Monitoring Unit is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the city’s stormwater management facilities and for environmental monitoring and assessment programs that are integral to understanding and evaluating surface water impacts resulting from municipal infrastrucure.  

You are responsible for:

  • reviewing and assessing new infrastructure applications related to development and City-led projects, and providing comments on behalf of the Unit.  Applications could include stormwater management infrastructure as well as design reports and supporting studies.   
  • assessing stormwater infrastructure problems, conditions and performance, and making recommendations for repairs and/or modifications of physical assets and/or operating practices.  To this end, you assess identified stormwater infrastructure problems, develop/design solutions, and prepare terms of reference for and manage technical studies related to operational performance of stormwater infrastructure.
  • assisting with developing and/or updating stormwater infrastructure standard operating procedures and specifications used for field response, repairs, corporate benchmarking and financial forecasting initiatives; 
  • providing technical guidance to field monitoring programs in relation to optimum location of equipment and regulatory compliance requirements; and 
  • acting as an expert point of contact for engineering advice and/or clarification of operational and maintenance requirements related to the rehabilitation, design/construction, commissioning and assumption of stormwater infrastructure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of a 4-year university degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university

Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in stormwater infrastructure design, construction and operations, including project management 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)

  • Engineering design and construction standards and principles related to drainage, sewer systems, and stormwater management facilities
  • Principles of project management

  • Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Stormwater Management Guidelines
  • Ministry of Natural Resources Floodplain Management Guidelines
  • The Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications 
  • City process for developing Terms of Reference and Requests for Proposals for selection of Consulting Engineers
  • City process for retaining contractors to complete repair and/or construction works at facilities
  • Computer applications pertaining to data base management, spreadsheet, and word processing in an engineering environment 
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
