JOB SUMMARY
The Locates, Laterals and Grants unit delivers programs and services related to municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including: grant programs, linear rehabilitation and lead pipe replacement programs, backflow prevention monitoring, field locate services and leak detection services.
You are responsible for providing leak detection services (including emergency response, non-emergency response, leak surveys and other planned work), and pinpointing of leak locations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12
Minimum of 4 years of experience in water distribution or a related field
Experience and training in providing leak detection services and/or locates for a water system is an asset

- Relevant Section, Unit, Branch, departmental and City policies, standards, specifications, processes and Standard Operating Procedures
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
