JOB SUMMARY

You assist with the creation and maintenance of GIS databases for land use, employment and other key variables, and work independently or as a team member on a variety of research and projection GIS projects. The project work deals with analyzing, compiling, organizing, interpreting and processing digital data to produce a variety of geographically related maps, graphic displays, projection models and reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 2 year community college course in Geographic Information Systems, Survey Mapping Technology, Computer Science or related field

Minimum of 4 years of experience

KNOWLEDGE

  • ArcView 8.1, Map database configuration
  • Vision, MicroStation, and AutoCAD software
  • Digital mapping methods and procedures
  • Office automation software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint • Computer graphics workstations and peripherals
  • Municipal GIS systems and applications
  • Current GIS computer technology
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
