JOB SUMMARY
The Wastewater Collection Branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Collection infrastructure and systems including communal wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater system, and oversees the Sewer Use Program.
You are responsible for fulfilling the duties of the Wastewater Collection, Maintenance & Repair Foreperson, by organizing, planning, directing, inspecting, performing, documenting the maintenance, installation, monitoring, testing, repair and other activities associated with the City’s wastewater system. You ensure the integrity of the wastewater infrastructure and quality control of the work and conformance with applicable legislation, City policies and conditions while ensuring on-site safety of crews and minimum impact on public activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a municipal sewer maintenance field, infrastructure maintenance and inspection field
Must possess and maintain the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate/License Level 2

- Operate specialized tools and equipment such as pipe saws, chain saws, sewer cleaning equipment, heavy drills and breakers, line tracing equipment and mini camera
- Operate assigned vehicle such as a dump hoist truck
- Work well under a strenuous environment
- Conduct inspections and prepare reports
- Use a computer and be familiar with MS Excel, Word, Maximo and Arc View
- Work with minimal supervision and ability to lead others

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated; A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with 0 demerit points accumulated
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
