JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Branch is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Financial Accounting Control framework, including: financial accounting policies, procedures, and processes; financial audits and controls; and ensuring the proper recording of financial transactions and compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAB). 

You are responsible for monitoring, analyzing, providing financial advice, and reporting on the city's accounts.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year certificate or diploma in Business Administration or Financial Management

Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in an accounting environment 

KNOWLEDGE

  • SAP 
  • Microcomputer systems and applications 
  • Accounting principles 
  • Organizational structure and responsibilities of the city 
  • City account code structure 
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
