JOB SUMMARY
The Transportation Policy and Networks Branch leads projects and initiatives to advance transportation data collection, analysis, and modelling in the National Capital Region; and also provides overall management and secretariat support for the regional transportation systems planning committee, the “TRANS Committee”. The TRANS Committee includes the City of Ottawa, la Ville de Gatineau, OC Transpo (City of Ottawa), la Société de transport de l’Outaouais, Ontario Ministry of Transportation, le Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec, and the National Capital Commission.
In the Data Analyst role, you conduct transportation data analysis and develop analytical solutions to improve our understanding of regional transportation network performance and to plan future services and infrastructure. This includes data integration, analytics, and visualizations of transportation datasets, developing technical reports, and preparing presentations for internal and external clients.
You also assist with maintaining and updating the TRANS regional travel demand model; applying the regional travel demand model to assess the transportation impacts of various land use, infrastructure, and policy scenarios; and assist with multi-agency transportation data collection and modelling initiatives.
You work with staff from all TRANS partner agencies to analyze transportation and land use datasets; conduct research; develop communication products; support project management; and assist with other TRANS Committee activities as required. French language skills would be an asset in this role but are not required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Intelligence, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of data and analytics
KNOWLEDGE
- General knowledge of corporate technology systems and databases, business intelligence and data visualization tools
- Data systems and statistical data collection
- Survey techniques and methodologies
- Database management and data handling procedures (data integrity, statistics)
- Data management software such as Microsoft ACCESS
- Advanced skills in Microsoft EXCEL
- Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Records management systems
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- Knowledge or experience with a centre of excellence approach to enabling an organization and customers to self-serve advanced analytics is highly desirable
