JOB SUMMARY

The Emergency & Protective Services department is responsible for protecting the health, property and quality of life in Ottawa through an integrated public safety department encompassing Ottawa Fire Services, the Ottawa Paramedic Service, By-law & Regulatory Services, and Public Safety Service.

You are responsible for developing and implementing advanced reporting and analytics capabilities to guide data-informed decision making and progress departmental goals. This includes the development of advanced data modeling, predictive modeling techniques to interpret key findings from the data collected and leverage these insights into recommendations. You provide recommendations for new system functionalities through industry research, best practice analysis and by staying current with emerging technologies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

University degree in Computer Engineering Technology Computer Science, Computer Systems Technology, Statistics, or related field.

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in data analytics, automation engineering, or a similar technical role.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience / use of Business Intelligence applications with a proven ability to create insightful reports/dashboards based on best practice design principles, data visualization techniques and efficient data models
  • Research methods
  • Working knowledge of predictive analytics and business intelligence
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Business intelligence applications, Microsoft Suite and SharePoint
  • Relevant legislation, policies, codes, regulations, and guidelines 
  • Interest in AI and willingness to explore AI-driven solutions to enhance performance and drive efficiencies
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

  • Possess a strong analytical skill set; including proficiency in data analysis tools and methodologies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the design and development of BI dashboards based on best practice design principles, data visualization techniques and efficient data models
  • Able to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; analyze and compare data from different sources to identify patterns, issues and draw conclusions
  • Able to advocate for improvements to processes, architecture, data quality, data governance, and overall design 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to gather client business requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to convert data to insights, insights to recommendations and recommendations into actionable plans
  • Ability to interpret broad sets of statistical and qualitative information to reach logical conclusions and/or identify significant trends or patterns.
  • Ability to conduct research, using qualitative and/or quantitative (statistical) methodologies
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures and guidelines
