JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of Corporate Finance is to support the delivery of City services by: providing excellent service to the public and City departments; partnering with our clients to develop innovative solutions to business needs; and ensuring compliance with all legislation, by-laws and other governance requirements for financial reporting, planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury, and financial systems.
You are responsible for: preparing assigned sections of the City’s annual financial statements, the Treasurer’s section of the Annual Report, and Financial Information Return; carrying out a variety of professional accounting assignments; and providing accounting assistance and advice to City departments, staff in Corporate Finance, Revenue and Supply Services, and/or Business Improvement Associations (BIAs).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or auditing.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
KNOWLEDGE
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices
- Canadian public sector accounting standards established by the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) of the Chartered Professional Accounts of Canada
- Municipal finance legislation, including guidelines from the Municipal Finance Officers Association (MFOA)
- Applicable policies, guidelines, procedures and processes at the corporate, departmental, Service and Unit levels
- The mandates, responsibilities, operations and inter-relationships of City departments and other stakeholders (e.g. Business Improvement Associations)
- SAP and computer applications
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
