Salary Information: $85,378.02 - $100,553.18 annually. (2025 rates of pay)

Overall Purpose
- The User Experience Designer is responsible for creating user interfaces that are both visually appealing and functionally intuitive, with focus on interaction and visual design.
- This position supports the police service’s mission by enhancing public understanding of safety data, fostering communication with the community, and promoting collaborative crime prevention strategies through the delivery of accessible and meaningful information.
Major Responsibilities
Interaction Design:
- Design and iterate user interfaces for the safety data portal, ensuring an accessible and intuitive user experience.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that align with user needs and project goals.
Design System:
- Develop visually appealing and consistent design elements, including icons, colour schemes, and typography, to enhance the overall aesthetic of the safety data portal.
- Ensure consistent application of brand elements, typography and other artifacts.
- Collaborate with the analytics team to maintain brand consistency and visual identity.
User-Centered Design:
- Advocate for a user-centered design approach, incorporating feedback from user testing and research into design iterations.
- Work closely with the User Experience Researcher to understand user personas and integrate findings into the design process.
Prototyping and Testing:
- Create interactive prototypes to demonstrate and test design concepts with stakeholders and end-users.
- Participate in usability testing sessions to gather feedback and refine designs based on user insights.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, developers, analysts and user experience researchers, to ensure the feasibility and implementation of design solutions.
- Engage in design reviews, providing constructive feedback and incorporating input from team members.

Statement of Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A three (3) year post-secondary degree or diploma in graphic design, interaction design, visual communication, or other design-related fields or relevant experience.
- Minimum three years (3) experience working with creating design solutions and interactive prototypes.
- Experience and formal training combined may substitute for stipulated education requirements.
Language
- English – fluency in oral, reading, and writing.

- Work is performed in a standard office / police environment with minimal adverse working conditions.
Desired Qualifications
- Oral, reading, and writing fluency in French or other languages.
- Experience or familiarity with Agile or iterative development environments, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and adaptability to changing project requirements.
