This posting is for two (2) temporary positions available until June 2026. All civilian competitions include the possibility of extension and/or additional temporary or permanent positions.
Salary Information: $67,179.84 - $79,133.60 annually. (2026 rates of pay)
It is expected that the competition components will be held during the month of January 2026.

Overall Purpose
Under the direction of the Supervisor Fleet Services, the Fleet Services Detailer is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the fleet of OPS vehicles, ensuring the trunk equipment is complete, and reporting any damage.
Major Responsibilities
Performs various functions related to routine vehicle cleanliness including:
- Coordinate with Fleet Attendants on which vehicles are priority for cleaning.
- Maintain cleanliness of all OPS vehicles, including exterior washes and internal cleaning
- Maintain a monthly spreadsheet of vehicles cleaned
- Ensure the frontline patrol trunk equipment is complete and up to date
- Maintain a monthly spreadsheet of trunk equipment restocking for tracking purposes
- Build first aid kits to OPS standards
- Report vehicle damages and defects to a Fleet Supervisor or Attendant
- Ensure all vehicle fluids are at required levels
Maintain a clean and safe workplace and carry out monthly workplace safety inspections comprised of conducting and submitting to Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Fleet area workplace safety inspection reports confirming:
- All fire extinguishers are properly stored / mounted, visible, not blocked and are tagged showing expiry date.
- All Eye wash stations are in working order, clean and are accessible.
- All power cords, air hoses, water hoses and tools are properly secured.
- All personal protective equipment is available for use and are in working order.
- All Electrical receptacles are in working orders and of proper type as per code.
- Ensure all Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) products being used in the areas have proper labels.
Maintain current knowledge of National Capital Region geography to drive / operate motor vehicles to meet OPS operational requirements including:
- Transport, clean, restock, and set up Command Vehicle, ensuring the vehicles operational readiness for next use.
- Perform other duties as required or directed.

Statement of Required Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of Grade 12 Secondary High School diploma or General Equivalency.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience performing routine vehicle cleaning in a commercial automotive service environment
LANGUAGE
- English – fluency in oral, reading, and writing.
Certifications and Licences
- Possess a valid Ontario or Quebec Provincial Driver’s License.
- Candidates will be subject to successfully passing the two stage driving test administered by the OPS Professional Development Centre.
In service Training
The following mandatory training and education is provided to all employees of the OPS:
- Occupational Health & Safety.
- Respectful Workplace.

- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
- Training on specialized fleet management databases will be provided.
- All employees of the OPS are expected to complete all additional and new mandatory training as prescribed by the Office of the Chief.

Hours of Work
Effort and Working Conditions
- Work requires lifting and transporting vehicle parts, inventory and supplies including tires, wheels and rims.
- Requires bending to check vehicle trunk supplies
- Dirty, noisy, garage atmosphere subject to exhaust fumes and inclement temperatures
- Requires using a pressure washer and loud vacuum for extended periods of time
- Limited contact with prisoners.
- Work environment consistent of a working garage.
- Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as within a team environment.
- The incumbent must be able to work shifts as designated in the “Hours of Work” section of the job description.
- Must be able to operate a police vehicle safely and within standards, including maintaining a valid Ontario or Quebec Provincial Driver’s License.
Desired Qualifications
- Oral, reading, and writing fluency in French or other languages.
- Experience in large commercial fleet operations, fleet service and vehicle maintenance.
- Experience in asset management and tracking.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel.
